Meet Our Founder
William J. Baier, MD, FAAP
Board Certified Pediatrician & Founder
Dr. William J. Baier founded Lockport Pediatrics in 1981. A Western New York native, Dr. Baier completed his medical training at the University of Brussels, Belgium, and the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico. Prior to his medical training, he graduated from St. John Fisher College, followed by postgraduate studies in Physical Chemistry at the University of Miami.
Dr. Baier returned to Buffalo, New York, to complete his pediatric internship and residency at Women’s and Children’s Hospital. During his final year, he served as Chief Pediatric Resident. In 2007, Dr. Baier was chosen as one of America’s Best Pediatricians. He and his wife Joan have a daughter, Jesse, and son-in-law, Jason. They are also proud parents of their golden retriever, Cooper.
Meet Our Pediatric Care Team
Dr. Melissa N. Sciolino, M.D.
Board-Certified Pediatrician
Dr. Melissa N. Sciolino is a board-certified pediatrician and Western New York native. She completed her undergraduate studies at Canisius College and was accepted through the Early Assurance program to SUNY Syracuse College of Medicine. She returned home to complete her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and joined Lockport Pediatrics in June 2001.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Sciolino enjoys spending time with her husband Mark and daughters Victoria and Alexandria. She also likes reading, sewing, and scrapbooking.
Dr. Jeffrey P. Herendeen, M.D.
Pediatrician
Dr. Jeffrey P. Herendeen is a board-eligible pediatrician who joined Lockport Pediatrics in July 2020. A Western New York native, he completed both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University at Buffalo before completing his pediatric residency at Oishei Children’s Hospital. He is currently accepting new patients.
Dr. Herendeen and his wife Samantha are proud parents of four beautiful children and have a dog named Cooper. He enjoys sports, being outdoors, and building/fixing electronics.
Debora Sippel, P.N.P. (IBCLC)
Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Debora Sippel has been with Lockport Pediatrics for over seventeen years. She is a Certified Lactation Consultant specializing in helping new moms with breastfeeding issues. Debbie earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of New York at Buffalo.
Before joining the practice, Debbie worked for ten years at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, specializing in infectious disease and adolescent medicine. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, walking the dog, and is an avid runner.
Chelsea Schifferle, FNP
Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
Lockport native Chelsea Schifferle joined Lockport Pediatrics in June 2017. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Daemen College and worked as a Registered Nurse at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in the cardiac unit. She earned her Family Nurse Practitioner Degree from D’Youville College.
As a student, Chelsea completed her pediatric internship at Lockport Pediatrics under the tutelage of Dr. Baier. She has spent many summers supervising children as a certified lifeguard and is a CrossFit enthusiast in her spare time.
Jessica Gill, PA
Physician Assistant
Jessica Gill joined Lockport Pediatrics in August 2023. Originally from Orchard Park, Jess completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University at Buffalo. She then went to Canisius, where she earned her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.
In her free time, Jess enjoys reading, hiking, and crafting. Her ultimate goal is to hike the highest peak of every state. She also enjoys being with her cats, Pogo and Wee-Gee.
